Stephen A. Smith hopes the Golden State Warriors will provide Steph Curry with the elite players he needs to win another title. Smith adores the famous Warriors player so much that he has been likened to a god by both the Bay Area community and Golden State.

During his latest interview on “Willard & Dibs” on 95.7 The Game, Smith discussed several subjects, one of which was that the Warriors “owe” Curry a strong team surrounding him. He also mentioned his trust in Curry, believing the four-time NBA champion could still lead a club to another championship.

Smith said at 0:49: “(The Warriors) owe Steph Curry whatever the hell Steph Curry wants. I’m a Christian and I don’t compare any man to God, but that man Steph Curry is the closest thing to a God-like figure that you got in that area. Make no mistake about it. Too invaluable. Too untouchable,”

With a 46-36 record at the end of the season, the Golden State Warriors were just tenth in the Western Conference rankings. They managed to advance to the NBA Play-In Tournament, but the Sacramento Kings easily defeated them.

Though it was only the third time the Warriors have missed the playoffs since 2015, the season was difficult. After some conflict with Steve Kerr, Jonathan Kuminga had his breakthrough year. Meanwhile, Steph Curry was his usual self, performing at a high level.

Steph Curry Recently Made It to the NBA All-Star Third Team

There are a lot of talented players in the NBA, and the skill pool is expanding. Steph Curry was only selected to the All-NBA Third Team after averaging 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. He also made 40.8% of his shots outside the arc and 45.0% from the field.

In past years, such stats would have been sufficient to make the All-NBA First Team, but not this time. The seasons of Jalen Brunson, Anthony Edwards, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, and the two-time MVP were all better.

Curry turns 36 this year, so the Warriors must provide him with players who can finish with a basket. It is unclear what the future holds for guys like Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson since he needs the roster to become younger.

On Thursday, veteran guard Chris Paul of the Golden State Warriors examined the Western Conference finals between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks players Anthony Edwards and Kyrie Irving. Paul compared his previous playoff matches with Steph Curry, a former opponent who is now a teammate.

Edwards reported that Irving “just outran” him during the competition, leaving him “exhausted.” In an interview with ESPN’s “NBA Countdown,” Paul discussed how Minnesota should use Edwards more in Game 2. In the postseason, was the nine-time All-Defensive team selection ever worn out “chasing around somebody as prolific as Kyrie”?

Curry was the opponent Paul named without hesitation, having faced him thrice in the playoffs (in 2014, 2018, and 2019). “Absolutely, I used to have to chase around Steph all the time,” Paul said humorously.

Early in the two-time MVP’s career, Paul’s Los Angeles Clippers beat Curry’s Warriors 4-3 in the 2014 playoffs’ opening round. But Curry and the company eventually exacted retribution. They defeated Paul’s Houston Rockets 4-3 in the 2018 West finals and 4-2 in the second round of the 2019 postseason.
