REPORT: Alabama Will Be Paying Nick Saban A Wild Amount Of Money Every Year Despite His Retirement
Nick Saban won’t be coaching at Alabama this year, but it hardly means the school will stop paying him.
Having led the Crimson Tide to six national championships, Saban will reap the benefits of his hard work even in retirement. The program is set to pay him $500,000 a year as an advisor, more than his base salary as a coach.
That is according to 247Sports, which obtained documents noting the above.
The former coach walked away from the game at the end of the 2023 season, having put in 17 years with the program and making it one of the most formidable programs in college football.
He earned just over $300,000 in base salary but was making over $9 million per season because of the way his contracts were structured.

Nick Saban Is Not The First Former Coach To Land Such A Gig With His Old Team
The 72-year-old has since joined ESPN as a college football analyst and was on hand for the network’s NFL Draft coverage earlier this year.
Saban, who appeared at a roundtable discussion about the current state of college football on Capitol Hill back in March, will be part of ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ next season.
The former Bama HC is not the first to continue being paid by a college program in retirement. The legendary Mike Krzyzewski made close to $9 million a year after leaving Duke, having become an ambassador for the program.
Jay Wright was also paid by Villanova after stepping down from his role as head coach.
