Everything We Know About Fast X Part 2

Fast X sets up the beginning of the end for the long-running Fast and Furious franchise, pitting Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his team against a frightening new villain, Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa). Seeking revenge for the death of his father, Reyes targets Dom and his crew with designs to make them suffer as he once suffered.

The tenth Fast and Furious movie ended on a massive cliffhanger, leaving the fates of many main characters up in the air. An eleventh installment is set to immediately follow the events of Fast X, wrapping up the story that its predecessor began. However, there is still very little that has been revealed about the upcoming finale.

Fast And Furious 11 Will Be The Final Installment Of The Fast Saga

Dom (Vin Diesel) uses a car door as a shield to protect Isabela (Daniela Melchior) in Fast X

With so many members in Dominic Toretto’s Fast Family and Fast X on its way to theaters, it’s a good time to learn the Fast & Furious family tree.

Trivia

The Fast and Furious franchise spans fourteen years in length, beginning in 2001 and ending in 2025.

The announcement of Fast X also came with the startling revelation that it would be “the beginning of the end of the road” for the long-running Fast and Furious franchise. Originally sold as a two-part finale, Fast X was later put forth by Vin Diesel as a trilogy. However, after the lukewarm box office draw of the tenth installment, Fast and Furious 11 will almost certainly be the end.

Fast and Furious 11 will have a lot of work to do to pick up after Fast X‘s cliffhanger and bring a satisfying conclusion to the overall franchise. Given the diminishing returns of the last several installments, however, now may be the perfect time for Universal to finally bring the franchise to an end.

Trivia

Of the many members of Dominic Toretto’s crew to die in Fast and Furious, only a handful actually remained dead, most notably including Vince and Elena.

Dante’s mission in Fast X is to make Dominic Toretto suffer loss — as he did when his father was killed during the events of Fast Five. It quickly became clear that some members of the Fast and Furious family would not survive the battle with Dante. This only further reinforces the idea that the franchise is coming to a close.

Fast X ended with a massive plane crash, which left the fates of popular characters like Roman Pearce, Tej Parker, Han Lue, and Ramsey uncertain. Even Dom and his son Brian were caught in an explosion, which should have killed them. Fast and Furious 11 may get off to a tragic start as it reveals which — if any — of these characters survived.

Fast 11 Will Tie Into Another Hobbs Spinoff

Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) looks ready for battle in The Fate Of The Furious

Trivia

Hobbs and Reyes is expected to come out before Fast and Furious 11 but has yet to receive an official release date.

Fast X included a shocking post-credit scene in which it is revealed that the villainous Dante Reyes has a new target in sight after Dominic Toretto’s apparent death. After sitting out the last several Fast and Furious movies, Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs will return in yet another spinoff as he battles Reyes ahead of Fast and Furious 11.

While it is unclear exactly how the upcoming Hobbs and Reyes spinoff will tie into the larger franchise, the events therein clearly must fall between Fast X and Fast 11. The film could see Hobbs gather a new team of heroes to fight Reyes, who wants revenge for the death of his father. Audiences should expect the end of the spinoff to set up the beginning of Fast and Furious 11 and the ultimate conclusion of the series.

Fast X, Part 2 May Take The Franchise Back To Basics

Trivia

While the eleventh Fast and Furious movie has sometimes been referred to as Fast X, Part 2, no official title has been given to the film yet.

Fast and Furious has come a long way from its street-racing roots, rapidly developing into an over-the-top spy thriller franchise over the years. However, recent reports have suggested that the upcoming eleventh installment will bring Fast and Furious back to basics with a more grounded story rooted in street racing.

This is certainly a puzzling report, especially given just how wild Fast X got with its story. After the explosive and larger-than-life events of the most recent film, it would feel like a step backward for the follow-up to focus on street racing again. Audiences will have to wait to see exactly how the massive Fast X culminates in a more grounded eleventh film.

Fast And Furious 11 May Return To A Familiar Location

Dominic Toretto's fallen father Jack (JD Pardo) is in F9

Trivia

In the F9 flashback sequence, a young Dominic Toretto is played by Vinnie Bennett.

Recently, Vin Diesel posted a picture on Instagram revealing that he was using a familiar race track to hone his driving skills for the upcoming sequel. The track in question is none other than the one seen in the flashback sequence of F9: The Fast Saga, where Jack Toretto, Dom’s father, was killed in a racing “accident” orchestrated by his younger son Jakob.

Coupled with the rumors that Fast and Furious 11 will go back to the franchise’s street racing roots, this revelation suggests that Dom’s past will come into play once more in the upcoming film. Dom may find himself reliving his past, including the death of his father, as he closes another chapter of his life.

Fast And Furious 11 Will Feature An Iconic Car

Dom and Brian race in the finale of The Fast and the Furious

Trivia

By 2 Fast 2 Furious, Brian’s Toyota Supra had been replaced by a Nissan Skyline.

Vin Diesel has been the most public figure in the preproduction for Fast and Furious 11, revealing several things through his Instagram account. Recently, he posted an emotional video wherein he revealed that he had reunited with Brian O’Conner’s iconic car from The Fast and the Furious.

The return of Brian O’Conner’s iconic orange Toyota Supra could indicate that the hero could return in some capacity in the upcoming film. However, this does not wholly confirm any such thing. At the end of The Fast and the Furious, Brian gives the Supra to Dom to help him escape capture by the police. It is not seen again after that, though it may still be in Dom’s care, judging from Diesel’s recent Instagram post.

Some Characters Will Return From The Dead

Gisele Yashar (Gal Gadot) is in a promotional photo for Fast and Furious.

Trivia

Gisele Yashar appeared to die at the end of Fast and Furious 6 when she fell out of a moving airplane.

While much of the discussion regarding the finale of the Fast and Furious franchise revolved around which characters will die, some will return from the dead. Gal Gadot’s Gisele returns in Fast X after her apparent death in Fast and Furious 6 — but she may not be the only one to come back before all is said and done.

Several characters are presumed dead who could return in Fast and Furious 11. Among these are Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody, whose plan was shot out of the sky in F9: The Fast Saga, and John Cena’s Jakob Toretto, who seemingly died in Fast X. This can lead to having an even larger finale movie that brings back elements of the entire series.

Fast 11 Will Have A Lower Budget Than Fast X

Dom drives his car down an exploding dam at the end of Fast X

Fast X has a shocking hero return to action, and with news that spinoffs are in development, she could star in a female-led prequel story.

Trivia

Furious 7 remains the most successful film in the franchise, earning over $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office.

Fast X had an exorbitantly large production budget, which is estimated to have been as high as $340 million (according to The Numbers). This, for reference, is over $100 million more than the original 2001 film made in its entire theatrical release. Realizing just how difficult it is to break even with a budget this huge, Universal has reportedly allocated a much smaller budget for Fast and Furious 11, though no official number has yet been revealed.

This is ultimately a very wise decision on the part of Universal. While Fast X was not a box office bomb by any means, it far underperformed its lofty projections, indicating that interest in the franchise is beginning to diminish, especially in the United States. It is far safer to utilize a smaller budget for the upcoming installment rather than blow another $300 million on a film that may not make it back.

Fast And Furious 11 Comes Out In 2026

Trivia

It is unclear if supporting characters like Brie Larson’s Tess or Daniela Melchior’s Isabel will appear in Fast X, Part 2.

Fast and Furious 11 was originally believed to come out sooner but was possibly delayed by the Writers’ and Actor’s Strikes in 2023. The upcoming finale to the action franchise was once slated to hit theaters on April 4, 2025, but additional delays have pushed the film to an unknown date in 2026.

Production on the next Fast and Furious movie is expected to begin in 2025 and, barring any additional unforeseen circumstances, shouldn’t have any reason to be delayed again. The wait between Fast X and its sequel may be long, but it will hopefully be worth it.

Jason Momoa May Not Return For Fast X, Part 2

Trivia

Dante Reyes is the son of Hernan Reyes, the main antagonist of Fast Five.

Dante Reyes is Fast and Furious‘s best villain so far, effortlessly stealing the show in Fast X. Shortly after the film’s release, however, reports surfaced that Vin Diesel may not have been too pleased about Momoa’s scene-stealing character. As a result, some rumors maintain that Fast and Furious 11 will focus on a different villain entirely, leaving Dante out.

Leaving Dante out of Fast and Furious 11 would be a major mistake. Fast X clearly set Momoa’s character up as the perfect franchise-ending villain and to abandon his storyline now would be incredibly unsatisfying and effectively kill the finale. This wouldn’t be the first time that an actor has been left out of the franchise though because of on-set differences.

Louis Leterrier Will Direct Fast And Furious 11

Trivia

Justin Lin has directed five Fast and Furious movies, including Tokyo DriftFast & FuriousFast FiveFast and Furious 6, and F9: The Fast Saga. He is still listed as a producer and writer on Fast X.

Fast X and its sequels were originally set to be directed by longtime Fast and Furious icon Justin Lin. However, the director left the project suddenly during production, with The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier being brought in to replace Lin. Seemingly pleased with Fast X‘s final product, Universal is expected to bring Leterrier back for the upcoming sequel.

Keeping Leterrier around for the second part of Fast X is a good move. Since the films are imagined as two parts of one larger story, they must have a similar voice. Sharing a director between the two films would go a long way in keeping the tone of Fast X and Fast 11 feeling the same.

Trivia

Dominic Toretto appears in every installment of the Fast Saga with the exceptions of 2 Fast 2 Furious and the spinoff film Hobbs and Shaw.

While many viewers are doubtful that the Fast and Furious franchise will truly come to an end with its upcoming installment, it does seem true that it will finally be the last ride for Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto. The franchise may continue with different spinoffs, but Fast 11 will finally give Dom the ending he deserves.

Vin Diesel has been the face of the Fast and Furious franchise for years. His departure would be the end of an era, but it is ultimately necessary if new stories are to be told in the same world. Dominic Toretto has had more than his fair share of exciting adventures, but it seems the time has finally come for him to pass on the torch to someone else.
