Golden Globes 2024 LIVE updates — Taylor Swift gives ‘death stare’ after shock joke as Ali Wong makes award history

THE 2024 Golden Globes made history this year – and it comes after the ceremony’s host told a jaw-dropping joke that didn’t land.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards ceremony was hosted by comedian Jo Koy at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, California.

Taylor Swift came to the event without her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, but that didn’t stop the host from joking about her recent appearances at football games.

“The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift,” the comedian joked during the ceremony – and when the camera flashed to the singer, she remained stone-faced and took a sip of her drink.

“If Taylor Swift death stares could actually kill, Jo Koy would now be deceased,” Piers Morgan noted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Later in the ceremony, Ali Wong made history with her Best Actress win for her role in Beef by becoming the first actress of Asian descent to take home the award in that category.

Ahead of last night’s Golden Globes awards ceremony, actresses Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried reunited in a quick moment together on the red carpet.

The star played mom and daughter in iconic 2008 film Mamma Mia.

Get to know Jeremy Allen White

Born on February 17, 1991, Jeremy Allen White is an actor from Brooklyn.

For several years until middle school, Jeremy had a strong interest in dancing.

It was in his teens that he really started to pursue acting and landed the role of Lip Gallagher on Shameless immediately after high school.

Shameless ran on Showtime from 2011 to 2021.

White now stars in Hulu culinary dramedy The Bear, which was first released in June of 2022.

Jeremy Allen White has won two Golden Globe awards for his performance as Carmy in The Bear.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, fans shared their thoughts after Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour lost to Barbie.

One wrote: “Golden globes is rigged taylor should have won.”

“I hope Taylor never goes to these FILM INDUSTRY non worthy award shows. She is more impactful and popular than everyone in that room combined,” another angry fan exclaimed.

A third said: “Taylor was robbed at Golden Globe Awards!!! How can you compare a cartoon movie with a global phenomenon?”

A fifth said: “They had to invent a category for Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes and she still lost lmao.”

Someone else posted: “Can’t believe we got robbed of seeing Luke Skywalker presenting Taylor Swift with a Golden Globe.”

Another said: “Barbie did not deserve the Golden Globe for Cinematic & Box Office Achievement. Taylor deserved that award actually.”

Host Jo Koy made a joke during last night’s ceremony that left Taylor Swift looking unhappy as she pursed her lips and took a sip of her drink in a now-viral moment.

“The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift,” the comedian had joked.

After the ceremony, Koy told Entertainment Tonight that the joke was meant to be “cute.”

“Aww, man, it was cute. I was just saying it was cute. I was just saying it’s less cutaways, that’s all,” the comedian said.

He then suggested that the singer was “just thirsty” when she took a sip of her drink in response to his jab.

“Maybe she was thirsty? Maybe she just needed to drink the champagne.”

Taylor Swift was nominated for a new award this year titled Cinematic and Box Office Achievement for her Eras Tour Film.

Other movies in this category were Barbie, Oppenheimer, The Super Mario Bros Movie, John Wick: Chapter 4, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One.

Unfortunately, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour lost to Barbie – Taylor’s concert film earned over $250million at the worldwide box office while Barbie brought in over $1.4billion.

The decision by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association left Swifties angry and disappointed.

Actor Zac Efron took to Instagram to congratulate his The Iron Claw co-star, Jeremy Allen White, for his Best Actor in a TV Comedy win.

“Yes chef!” Zac wrote on his story on top of a picture of the pair.

“Huge congrats on the W.

“Best actor #thegoldenglobes.”
