Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady

Considered by many as the greatest quarterback to ever play the game of football, Tom Brady was known for his intensity and never-say-die attitude while on the field.

Drafted in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, the San Mateo native kept the same competitive spirit that drove him backup to NFL legend throughout his career.

Tom Brady questioned about plastic sugery after TV broadcast debut

During a recent appearance on ‘The Pivot Podcast’, Brady claimed that he used to be jubilant while playing, much like Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes is, but that it eventually faded away.

Former teammate disagrees

While that may be how Brady remembers his career, former teammate Christian Fauria remembers things differently.

While speaking on ‘WEEI Boston Sports Original’, Fauria claimed that Brady was always very competitive. In fact, he said Brady was lying when claiming he wished he could go back and do things differently, and be like Mahomes is all the time.

“I think Brady is a liar,” said Fauria while laughing. “When I heard it, I was like, ‘Who’s he kidding? He can’t change. He can’t downshift. This is not who he is. He’s not wired like Mahomes.”

Fauria added that he always viewed Brady as someone who took the field with a purpose, rather than someone who was playing football for fun.

Fauria and Brady won two Super Bowls, Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX, during Tom’s early days in the league.

The former tight end revealed that while Brady would have moments of joy, they never came during games, as his style of play required dedicated preparation.

“I’ve seen him have a great time; I’ve heard him laugh and joke around,” said Fauria. “But when it came to the game, you could see it during certain passes, or where he won a game or got a first down.

“He’s extremely happy, he’s celebrating like a little kid, but the reality is he is just wired so differently than Mahomes. Everything about him is different.”
