Tom Brady is getting set to replace the best in the business as Greg Olsen, whom Brady is replacing as Fox Sports’ top NFL color commentator next season, took home the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Personality. This award comes amid his impending demotion.Olsen is expected to join Fox’s No. 2 team with Joe Davis after two years with Kevin Burkhardt on the top team.

Following his award and impending demotion, NFL fans took to X to speak on Tom Brady getting ready to replace a damn good announcer.

Troy Aikman, Cris Collinsworth, Bill Raftery, John Smoltz, and Tom Verducci were all defeated by Olsen. After receiving outstanding personality—emerging on-air talent last year, this is the second Emmy of his career.

In 2022, Olsen experienced an abrupt and unanticipated ascent when ESPN acquired the top Fox pair, Aikman and Joe Buck. Fox never intended for Olsen to succeed Burkhardt after only one season in the booth, and the network behaved accordingly when it hired Tom Brady to a 10-year, $375 million contract to serve as its new Aikman once he finished playing.

Olsen received favorable reviews in both of the seasons that passed between Tom Brady’s contract and the anticipated beginning of his announcing career, including Super Bowl LVII. Earlier this year, Brady acknowledged the talent of the man he will be replacing.

Earlier this year, Tom Brady confirmed that he will begin working as Fox Sports’ top color commentator starting in 2024, replacing Olsen.

Brady praised Olsen, who he “loves listening to.”

Fox signed Brady in 2022, but he took a year off to clear his head before starting the job. Olsen thrived as a result, but Brady now has to do the same. Fox spent a staggering $375 million over ten years to acquire the future hall-of-fame player.

Brady will call all of the big games on Fox – including the 2025 Super Bowl.

REPORT: Tom Brady Could Have Special Limitations On The Games He Calls For FOX In The Future

He already has a deal in place with Mark Davis and only needs the league to greenlight it.

While there will be a conflict of interest, the NFL hasn’t placed any limitations on Brady in terms of his ability to call Raiders games or their top AFC West rivals’ games.

“Right now, Tom’s not an owner of the Raiders, and as we go into this year, Tom’s able to call any game on the schedule,” NFL Executive Vice President, Media Distribution, Hans Schroeder, told reporters during a conference call on Thursday, per ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio.

This does suggest that restrictions could be placed on Brady once his deal to purchase a stake in the Raiders goes through.

Why Tom Brady’s Deal Is Taking Time

The proposal has been held up for several reasons. It was suspected that Davis wanted to use equity to hire the seven-time Super Bowl winner, but the league took away any possibility of that happening.

There’s also the issue of Davis wanting to let Brady have 5-10 percent of the Raiders for a sum significantly lower than market value.

Several sources claim that Brady’s FOX gig is reason enough to prevent him from having a team.

Even if the deal isn’t done yet, Brady is affiliated with the Raiders and the paperwork has been signed. He just needs 23 other teams to open the door to him.

The former quarterback could also be prohibited from practices and production meetings around the league because of his affiliation with Las Vegas. That’s obviously not great for FOX.

Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens.
