The New England Patriots held the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which was highly sought after. Out of the top three teams, the Patriots were reportedly the only team to have considered moving their pick if they received a good enough return.

According to ESPN’s Mike Weiss, a few teams were in the running to acquire the draft before the Patriots selected their new franchise quarterback, Drake Maye. The top two, the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants, reportedly made very big offers to New England.

The Giants’ offer included the sixth overall pick and their 2025 first-rounder. However, it was clearly not enough to entice New England out of the third spot.

The Vikings’ offer could have been considered the better offer as they offered more draft capital to the Patriots when they reportedly offered up their number 11 pick, their 23rd, and a 2025 first-round. The issue was most likely that they wanted two later-round picks from the Pats.

The New England Patriots Took Calls On The Number Three Pick

The Vikings and the Giants need a franchise QB after Daniel Jones struggled to compete in 2023 after signing a big contract extension, and the Vikings let go of Kirk Cousins in the off-season, who went on to sign in Atlanta.

Weiss pointed out that “there were different points throughout the process that there were [offers].” After the Patriots declined both offers, it seems as though the Giants are going to stick with Daniel Jones for another season.

The Minnesota Vikings, on the other hand, moved up to pick number 10 to select JJ McCarthy, and it seems as though that’s who they are going with. It’s possible the young quarterback may be backing up the recent signing of Sam Darnold, but it is likely to be the opposite way around.

With the Vikings and the Patriots seemingly having a future star at the QB position, it remains to be seen what the Giants will do with the QB decision. It’s possible that Jones may step up this season, but only time will tell.
