As fans gear up for Pat Sajak’s final episode, some took to Reddit to discuss the incoming host.

Several show fans appeared dissatisfied with the decision to call in Ryan, 49, to host.

“Seacrest is an interesting replacement choice. Will be strange seeing him on the show for some time,” one Wheel of Fortune fan wrote.

“Seacrest is everyone’s replacement,” a second viewer replied.

“If you say ‘generic inoffensive white guy’ into a mirror three times, Ryan Seacrest appears,” a third wrote.

Other fans speculated that Ryan would be quick to leave the show.

“Yes, I’m not a fan. Born in the 90s it was [Alex] Trebek, Pat, and Bob Barker my entire childhood. And I feel like Ken [Jennings] and Drew [Carey] are in it for the long haul. I wouldn’t be surprised if Seacrest is out in like 5 years. I want some commitment damn it!” one critic commented.

“Of course Seacrest will be out, that’s his catchphrase. Seacrest! Out!!!” someone else mocked.

TOP DOG

The backlash against Ryan replacing Pat has been rampant.

However, the TV and radio personality doesn’t appear overly affected by it.

Wheel of Fortune’s Pat Sajak lands acting role after leaving game show in first job during retirement

Amid calls for the network to replace him, Ryan shared a post praising his hosting abilities.

On Wednesday, the podcast host shared a post from American Idol’s official account onto his Instagram Stories.

The post dubbed him the “best host.”

The Story showed three pics of Ryan alongside Idol contestants from different seasons.

Wheel of Fortune Host Timeline

Although Pat and Vanna have been a staple on the game show for decades, there have been other hosts

Chuck Woolery was the host from 1975 to 1981

He co-hosted alongside Susan Stafford (1975 to 1982)

Vanna White then stepped in as hostess in 1982 and has been ever since

After a contract and salary dispute, the show got rid of Chuck and brought in Pat in 1982

Pat hosted with Susan for one season

He then left the game show in 1989 to host a late-night talk show for CBS

For five months, NFL player Rolf Benirschke took his place

In July 1989, Bob Goen hosted the show on CBS

He hosted for a year and a half until the show was canceled in 1991

The show was then moved to ABC with Pat and Vanna hosting for the foreseeable future

In 2023, Pat announced his retirement and Ryan Seacrest as quickly named as his replacement

“Thanks to the best host @RyanSeacrest for another year of love & laughs!!” the post stated.

Ryan added, “Such an incredible season.”

Days earlier, Wheel of Fortune fans criticized him, calling him a “bad fit” for the show.

Ryan was the topic of conversation in a recent Instagram video shared by Pat.

In the clip, he sat with his daughter Maggie Sajak.

The two chatted about Pat’s legacy with the show and how he landed the job in the first place.

In the comments, fans gushed over Pat and suggested someone better to take his place.

Many said they wanted to see Maggie, 29, fill her father’s shoes.

“Maggie should be host!! Idk who thought Seacrest was a good fit,” one person wrote.

“You are so loved, I think Maggie and Vanna should run the show. That would be awesome,” a second wrote.

“Definitely do not feel they chose the right host if they wanted to keep the show on the air. Very disappointing,” expressed a third.

MOVING ON

In addition to complaints about Pat’s replacement, Wheel of Fortune fans have noticed a lack of fanfare for his exit from the show.

Some seem to think that’s by design, noting that Pat seems ready to move on.

Aside from his interview with his daughter, Maggie, Pat has spoken very little about the end of his tenure on Wheel of Fortune.

Fans speculate that this is all part of his plan.

“I’m finding it interesting there’s not more of a commotion about this being Pat Sajak’s last week on Wheel of Fortune. There seems to be a general feeling of ‘ok moving on,'” one fan tweeted.

“For as long as he hosted you’d figure there would be more of a PR push.”

Some fans believe this is what Pat wanted.

“I assumed this was on his part,” one supporter guessed.

“He’s never been one to do a ton of interview (he’s obviously done some, but begrudgingly, I’ve always felt). And since he’s leaving/doesn’t care anymore, he’s willing to do an interview with Maggie, but that’s probably it.”
