JJ Redick is the name heard most when the subject of the next Lakers HC candidate is discussed. The former Magic guard has been in the running since the LA franchise parted ways with Darvin Ham following a disappointing end to their season.

 

Among other notable candidates, Redick holds an ace up his sleeve, which is his friendship with LeBron James. Despite the reports of LBJ not being part of the recruitment process, the King’s indirect wish is something the Lakers cannot ignore. Talking about the process and if Redick should jump on the opportunity if it presents itself, Shannon Sharpe delivered his verdict, which is interesting as well.

 

On his Nightcap Podcast, the former NFL TE compared the Lakers job to Kim Kardashian. He said, “Just like dating Kim Kardashian.. You already know she gonna break up with you, but she’s still Kim Kardashian.”

Co-host Chad Johnson also believed that Redick should grab the opportunity if presented despite his lack of experience and the inevitable sacking. Gilbert Arenas on the other hand, said, “It’s one of those things, is you just want to put it on your resume. I was Lakers coach and I can get another job after this. If that’s the play then go ahead do your thing. If not wait for the right opportunity.”

While 2 of the 3 members of the podcast encouraged JJ Redick for the Lakers HC job, there was another NBA legend who had a curious take on the matter. Still, his verdict of the 39-year-old’s coaching acumen is something in the realm of hilariously brutal.

With everyone putting forward their assessments of the Lakers HC situation, Paul Pierce gave a scathing report card to JJ Redick. On a recent episode of “Undisputed”, the Celtics legend said, “You hear JJ on podcasts; they draw up plays, it sounds like he has a great IQ… like he has a voice for coaching. It’s like an Instagram model. It looks good on there, & then you see it in person. It ain’t what you think.”

While Pierce might not be too impressed with what JJ Redick might bring to the table, the Lakers certainly are. Alongside him, Micah Nori, Sam Cassell, James Borrego, Chris Quinn, and David Adelman are the noteworthy candidates for the coveted role.

According to the buzz around the hoop alleys, Mike Krzyzewski is unofficially guiding the Gold and Purple franchise in their head coach search and, given Redick’s history with him in Duke colors, the ESPN analyst just might edge the race.
