A plane that was carrying the Carolina Panthers home after they played the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium had a frightening moment when it suddenly slid off the taxiway at an airport in North Carolina.
The plane carrying the team of players and staff landed normally, but part of the landing gear ended up off the taxiway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and into the mud.
The incident happened just before 3:00 am.
Delta said there were no injuries to any of the 188 passengers, who were bused to the terminal after they got off the plane.
Delta later said the plane was moved back onto the taxiway after the passengers got out.
Delta Airlines issued the following statement:
“The right main gear of Delta 8860 exited the taxiway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport following a normal arrival. No injuries were reported by the 188 customers who are deplaning and being bused to the terminal. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
Delta flight 8860 originated departed Providence Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport with the Carolina Panthers players and staff at 12:45 am, which was an hour late.
They weren’t the only ones, as they were one of 34 flights delayed by 7:30 a.m. at the airport, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Carolina Panthers Could Only Score 3 Points In Preseason Game Before Plane Incident
The Carolina Panthers faced off against the New England Patriots on Thursday night. The road team got off to a rough start, which ended in a rough game overall.
At one point, the Panthers had -12 passing yards after the first quarter.
In the end, the Panthers fell to the Patriots 17-3 after an under-two-minute field goal.
Things would get scary for them as their lane would slide off a taxiway, but luckily, everybody was uninjured.
