The Golden State Warriors might not be in the postseason, but that doesn’t mean awards should stop for Stephen Curry. Despite the disappointing regular season finish, the 36-year-old bagged another award to add to his honors gallery. On Wednesday, the Professional Basketball Writers Association announced Stephen Curry as the winner of the 2023-24 Magic Johnson award.

The award is given to the NBA players for their “cooperation and grace in dealing with the media and fans,” according to the PBWA. The person named the award, Magic Johnson, took to social media to congratulate Mr. Warriors, but his message lost the plot at the end. The Lakers legend posted a congratulatory message which ended with, “By the way @StephenCurry30, I had fun hanging out with your mom last night at the Sparks home opener!”

Yes you read that correctly, here’s the proof:

Soon, the post went viral for the specific last line, and social media were left in a limbo between awkward silence and hysterical laughter. Here are some of the reactions posted on X (formerly known as Twitter):

But there was a good reason why the NBA legend was with Stephen Curry’s mother.

Magic Johnson Seen Shedding Tears With Steph Curry’s Mom

On Mother’s Day, Stephen Curry’s mother, Sonya and Shaquille O’Neal’s mother, Lucille, announced their joint endeavor, a show titled “Raising Fame”. The show will be on TV One and a promo was released where the two moms were seen together.

In the promo, the parents of Kevin Durant, John Legend, Fantasia, and Magic Johnson were featured, who shared fragments of their past life struggles.

Magic Johnson was also seen in the promo who was moved to tears after a message from his mother, Christine, was played on a tablet. The show will be hosted by Sonya and Lucille, which will air starting from July 7. This should be a reason enough for the last part of Magic’s message, as the two NBA icons might just meet on the TV screens thanks to Curry’s mother.
