Shams Charania Floats Interesting Theory About LeBron James’ Lakers Stay

Even after being out of the post-season tournament with his LA Lakers team, LeBron James continues to be the center of discussion. While it is known that the 39-year-old doesn’t have much time left on the hardwood, The Athletic’s Shams Charania hinted at LeBron’s potential retirement year.

Recently on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Charania said, “I think the expectation around the league is up to about two years (before LeBron retires).” He continued to say, “Could LeBron James say, ‘I want to play three years’? It’s not out of the realm of possibility. At the end of the day, it’s up to LeBron James. “

Justifying his statement, the sports reporter added that even if LeBron James’ physical condition allows him to extend his career, the Lakers forward will take into consideration the sacrifice his people have made over the years when he was out there giving his best on the basketball court and hanging up his boots in a few years.

 

LeBron had clearly mentioned after packing his bags from round one of the playoffs that he wanted to spend some time with his family and not think about his uncertain future at the Lakers. However, the LA franchise is reportedly making it their prime concern to strike a deal with the star before he enters free agency this summer.

Lakers Desperate to Get LeBron James Back Next Season

While discussing LeBron’s future, Charania mentioned that the Los Angeles side is clear about getting the 20-time All-Star on board, and they could also draft his eldest son, Bronny James. However, there is a possibility that another team might acquire him.

During a recent episode of “The Rich Eisen Show,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin revealed, “The Lakers intend to have LeBron James come back on any term that he wants to, whether that be a one-year, two-year, three-year deal, whatever. They’d love to continue to have LeBron James in the purple and gold until he calls it quits, whenever that may be.”


Whether the rumors come true or not, one thing is certain, that only LeBron will decide his destiny after the 2024 Paris Olympics and will retire on his own terms, be it with the Lakers or any other franchise.
