The Dallas Wings faced off against the Phoenix Mercury at the College Park Center in Texas on Thursday, ending up on the losing side. This outcome left fans disappointed, and one fan’s harsh critique led to an outburst from Wings center Kalani Brown, which she later deleted.

A fan accused Brown and Teaira McCowan of being the “dumbest and slowest centers” in WNBA history. This stinging comment didn’t sit well with Brown, who vented her frustration after the game on social media.

“B***h go play in traffic & stop playing wit me on this app…,” Brown replied on Twitter.

Why was she criticized?

The fan’s critique likely stemmed from Brown’s perceived failure to adhere to the 24-second rule, which requires a team to attempt a field goal within 24 seconds of gaining possession.

In the game, Brown played for 23 minutes, scoring 6 points, securing 8 rebounds, and making 2 assists, with a 50% field goal percentage.

McCowan, on the other hand, played for 15 minutes, scoring 3 points, matching that with 3 rebounds, and committing 3 turnovers. Brown also had 4 personal fouls, while McCowan had 3, contributing to the Wings’ close loss.

The match was tightly contested, with the Mercury edging out the Wings by a score of 104 to 96. The Mercury won three of the four quarters, with the Wings prevailing only in the third quarter. Major contributors in this close contest were Kahleah Copper for the Mercury and Natasha Howard for the Wings, scoring 34 and 36 points respectively.

Copper and Howard also made history by becoming the first WNBA players from opposing teams to each score 30 or more points with 70% or higher field goal percentages since the 2019 season. This thrilling matchup was a rollercoaster of emotions for fans, ending with a bittersweet victory for the Mercury.
