The Indiana Fever appeared to have made a change that will make Caitlin Clark’s fans happy.
Following the team’s blowout loss to the New York Liberty on Thursday night, some called for head coach Christie Sides to make lineup changes and let Clark have more of the ball.
Sides apparently thought it made sense, too, as Erica Wheeler was removed from the starting lineup ahead of this Saturday’s game against the Liberty.
Wheeler has been replaced by Kelsey Mitchell in a move that should allow Clark to have the ball in her hands some more.
Aliyah Boston, Katie Lou Samuelson, and NaLyssa Smith remain in the starting five with Clark and Mitchell.
The India Fever & Caitlin Clark Have Had Their Toughness Questioned By Their HC
Meanwhile, Sides called out the Indiana Fever for a lack of toughness following their opening games.
“If somebody keeps punching you, you’ve got to be able to respond to it,” she said. “You’ve gotta give some of that back. And that’s where we are. We’ve got to get to another level of mental toughness.
“We just have to get better. More mentally tough.”
The change hasn’t quite worked out, nor have the comments, as they were down 73-58 heading into the fourth quarter of Saturday’s clash. However, Clark had 20 points, six rebounds, and five assists in 26 minutes.
Caitlin Clark has had a difficult start to life in the WNBA as she looks to be headed for a third straight loss in as many appearances.
FOX’s Colin Cowherd reckons it’s the league’s fault for setting her up with a tough schedule.
