NBA insider and analyst for ‘The Athletics,’ Shams Charania, recently posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Mike Budenholzer has agreed to a five-year contract worth more than $50 million to become the new head coach of the Phoenix Suns.

Mike Budenholzer has agreed to terms on a five-year, $50-plus million deal to become the new head coach of the Phoenix Suns, league sources tell The Athletic and Stadium. Suns land the two-time NBA Coach of the Year and Arizona native. Shams Charania wrote in his post on X.

Mike Budenholzer has been named as the new head coach of the Phoenix Suns. His career record stands at 484-317, and he has been named NBA Coach of the Year twice. Budenholzer was previously with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks, and the Suns will be his third team.

The Suns sacked their former head coach, Frank Vogel, after only one year in the post. Vogel had signed a $31 million, five-year contract with Phoenix last summer after the team decided to release Monty Williams.

The Phoenix Suns were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs after losing four consecutive games to the Minnesota Timberwolves. As a result, the team is under pressure to make significant changes to improve their performance next season. Despite having Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal on the roster, the team lost and faced heavy criticism from the fans and the NBA analyst.
