With more support from the world, more opportunities have come to many athletes around the globe, and it is no secret that the voice of women has a rightful place equally with men.

Though much work has yet to be done, recognition from everyone is a way towards the right direction and if it comes from a high-profile personality, it helps even more.

Three-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes raised a toast to women in sports during the TIME100 Gala, celebrated on April 25 of this year. The speech has recently gone viral after the release of it on social media.

The Kansas City Chiefs star attended the event after being named one of the most prestigious 100 Most Influential People on the publications list last month.

In the video posted by TIME on Monday, May 3, Mahomes used his time on stage to recognize women and their accomplishments in sports, while also giving a shoutout to Las Vegas Aces star AJa Wilson.

“Tonight I’d like to raise a glass to a new era in sports,” Mahomes said. “An era in which the women’s game is finally getting the attention it deserves. For a long time, there was this well-meaning but patronizing idea that you should care about women’s sports because that aligns with your values. And sure, there’s some merit to that. But the real reason you should care about women’s sports is because they’re incredible.”
