Kelly Stafford, the wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, has responded to the controversial comments made by Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker last week.

Harrison Butker spoke to a graduating class last Saturday at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. During his commencement speech, Butker made antisemitic, homophobic, sexist and misogynistic remarks.

Butker made several comments that drew public backlash, including suggesting to the graduating women that they should be “homemakers”.

On her Instagram story, Kelly Stafford addressed Butker’s “troubling” comments without mentioning the 28-year-old kicker by name.

“Women already experience enough imposter syndrome and to have a man use a platform to enforce a woman’s deepest fears is troubling. The fear that we don’t have a choice and we don’t belong.”

Can you honestly tell me that you would agree that IVF/surrogacy is playing God? You know and have felt the joy of having a child … imagine if you physically couldn’t: Would you agree with this? Or would you think IVF/surrogacy is a miracle from God for those who can’t get pregnant/carry a child?”

Stafford followed that up by sharing the following statement in an Instagram post:

Harrison Butker’s comments have caused widespread outrage from the public, with many calling for the Chiefs to release the three-time Super Bowl champion. In fact, there’s an online petition with over 200,000 signatures for Kansas City to cut ties with him.

Though it’s been a week since Butker made those comments, the Chiefs still haven’t publicly addressed the matter. Jonathan Beane, the NFL Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, told People that Butker’s “views are not those of the NFL as an organization.”

Butker has spent his entire seven-year career with the Chiefs. He has a career field goal percentage of 89.1 with an extra point success rate of 94.5.

Harrison Butker Comments Create Another Issue For Chiefs

The offseason simply has not been kind to the defending Super Bowl champions thus far.

Star wide receiver Rashee Rice faces eight charges over his involvement in a six-car accident that left four people injured, with two of them needing treatment in the hospital. Rice is also being investigated for allegedly assaulting a photographer outside of a nightclub. On top of that, Kansas City offensive linemen Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick were arrested on Thursday for possession of marijuana.

The Chiefs were supposed to be celebrating a second straight Super Bowl championship into the start of the 2024 campaign, but the series of offseason incidents and controversies has become problematic and concerning.
