Clark is bringing out the best in everyone, especially her opponents.

Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has brought a surge of attention to the WNBA and inspired a new level of admiration. In its 28-year history, the league has seen its share of exceptional players, but never before has the basketball world been so captivated until the sharpshooter from Iowa stepped onto the court.

Although the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer is having a solid season, averaging 16.3 points and 6.0 assists per game, it seems like her opponents are extra-motivated to face her and the Fever, resulting in incredible performances from stars like Jewell Lloyd and A’ja Wilson. As such, Adam Lefkoe lauded Caitlin’s presence for pushing others to give their all in every game.

Gunning for the Fever

It appears that it’s not only fans who are circling their calendars when it comes to seeing Clark in action. Other players, specifically her opponents, have also been gunning for the Indiana Fever rookie.

“I’m not betting against Caitlin Clark because there are times where she’ll drop 30, but every time she plays another star in the W, they go crazy,” Lefkoe told Shaquille O’Neal on “The Big Podcast.”

In their first match-up on May 22, Lloyd—the five-time All-Star and a two-time champ of the Seattle Storm—exploded for 32 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Aces’ star forward, A’ja Wilson, had 29 points and 15 rebounds in their May 25 clash against Caitlin and the Fever.

This is not to say that these WNBA All-Stars have an axe to grind against Caitlin because they certainly don’t. However, they’re aware of the spotlight focused on the smooth rookie and are keen on taking advantage.

“I love Caitlin Clark because I’m getting to see everyone else take their game to a whole new level because they know the ratings are higher, and they want to show out, too,” Lefkoe concluded.

Not just Caitlin

While the Iowar product has undoubtedly been the main draw this season, Shaq says she hasn’t been alone in elevating the women’s league’s profile to the next level. Thanks to a stellar rookie class that features popular players like Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, and Cameron Brink, fans have been treated to a higher level of competition and excitement on the court.

Moreover, the WNBA is beginning to enjoy better media mileage and financial opportunities, which is a testament to the growing popularity of women’s basketball. With more and more fans tuning in to watch these talented athletes compete, it’s clear that the league is evolving for the better.

“It’s never one person. Don’t say, ‘Oh, we’re getting new sponsorships because of Caitlin.’ No, what about Angel? What about Cardoza? What about my favorite, Kelsey Plum? Cameron Brink?” the “Diesel” emphasized. “I mean, women’s sports are on the rise everywhere.”

The WNBA keeps on rising. With stellar rookies like Caitlin, Angel, and Cam adding to an already talented roster of future stars that features A’ja, Jewell, Diana Taurasi, and Breanna Stewart, to mention a few, the future looks bright for women’s basketball. As more opportunities arise, these athletes will continue to break barriers and inspire the next generation of players.
