One of the 2 men that were involved in the murder of Michael Jordan’s father, James Jordan, back in 1993 is up for parole.

44-year-old Larry Demery is being considered for release by the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, according to WECT News. It was back in 1996 when he received a life sentence after pleading guilty to first-degree murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery.

James Jordan was sleeping inside his car when he was killed on July 23, 1993. His body would soon be found in a swampy area in McColl, S.C., on Aug. 3, 1993. Both Demery and his friend Daniel Andre Green were arrested and turned on each other, as they pointed to the other as the trigger-man. It ultimately didn’t matter as Green was sentenced to life in prison as well.

“I think about him every day. I’m pretty sure I always will. Every day of my life,” Michael said of his father in 1996, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Crimes committed on or after Oct. 1, 1994 are not eligible for parole, according to the current sentencing law in North Carolina. Demery was sentenced under previous guidelines, so that is the only reason why he is being considered for parole
