DeSean Jackson And LeSean McCoy Rip Chip Kelly To Shreds For Alleged Racism And Incompetence

Neither LeSean McCoy nor DeSean Jackson are fans of former Philadelphia Eagles head coach and current Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. They ripped him to shreds on a new episode of The 25/10 Show.
Although the conversation was entirely one-sided, it did not paint the 60-year-old in a good light.
You can watch the full episode here:
Jackson and McCoy each played at least one year for Kelly in Philadelphia. He went 26-21 in three seasons with the Eagles from 2013 through 2015 and did not make it out of his third year before being fired.
Left tackle Jason Peters, defensive end Brandon Graham and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin also played alongside McCoy and Jackson. They did not speak highly of Kelly when called upon by their former teammates.
That was only the tip of the iceberg.
McCoy claims that Kelly treated Black players differently from White players. He told a story about one of his teammates, Roc Carmichael, who the head coach allegedly told to cut his long hair to “be more presentable.”
The six-time Pro Bowl running back also did not appreciate how Kelly handled an incident with Riley Cooper. McCoy’s teammate used a racial slur at a Black security guard at a concert in 2012.
Cooper was fined by the team, apologized, and underwent sensitivity training. Kelly reputedly kept him away from the Eagles’ building for many days there after in an effort to avoid additional problems.
I had a good relationship with Coop. Ain’t no way he’s racist… but I wanted to talk to him.
Chip made it so nobody could even speak to him, no one could even talk to him. And I’m thinking like, “How does that even happen? You say all this and that, you just say ‘sorry’ and you leave and not ever talk about it? [Kelly] hid that whole thing from us.
— LeSean McCoy
Jackson also spoke about how their head coach would rarely, if ever, address any problems with veteran players. He said that Kelly would delegate any difficult conversations to his assistants.
He never really approached me, and was never a disciplinarian. He would talk to me, and it was like he was scared of me… I respect certain coaches, and when you get my respect, I will run through a brick wall for you… that’s the love that you build with a coach. With Chip Kelly, I never felt that love, because he always was scared of me. How can I respect you if I feel like you’re scared of me? You never voice your opinion with me, you always ran around it.
— DeSean Jackson
And then there was the roster moves.
Chip Kelly made a lot of controversial decisions.
The two most-criticized moves of Kelly’s tenure in Philly involved McCoy and Jackson. He dumped both players, after they both made the Pro Bowl in 2013, in back-to-back offseasons.
Jackson was released in 2014 after an article from Eliot Shorr-Parks accused him of having “gang ties” because of a picture with a childhood friend who was acquitted of murder.
That article hurt his career in more ways than one. It took/takes a toll on him both on and off the field, to this day.
Jackson spoke about Kelly and the Eagles’ decision to cut him because of the article. It did not and does not sit well with him.
Drew [Rosenhaus] is telling me, “They’re releasing you because of this [article].”
I wasn’t a convicted felon, I’ve never been to jail, I have a clean slate on everything I’ve done. I’m like, “Wow, they’re really fin’na release me on this, bro?” So they end up release me, and they’re antagonizing me, bro. They’re saying I’m a thug, I’m a hoodlum, I’m not a good teammate.
— DeSean Jackson
Approximately one year later, Philadelphia traded McCoy to Buffalo for Kiko Alonso. He thought it was a prank!
McCoy also claimed that Kelly tried to trade Graham. Owner Jeffrey Lurie supposedly vetoed the move.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Kelly allowed Maclin to leave during free agency after he led the team in catches and receiving yards in 2014. That was yet another bad move.
All-in-all, McCoy and Jackson are not fans of Chip Kelly. It will be interesting to see if the latter chooses to respond to the former on his own or if the media in Columbus chooses to ask him about the claims!
