The mother of Angel Reese has denied her daughter’s now-deleted social media post was aimed at Caitlin Clark and accused the media of fabricating the story to bring in “clicks”.

The Chicago Sky rookie appeared to take an indirect swipe at Clark on Thursday night before swiftly deleting her post on social media.

It came after the Sky recorded a 90-81 win over the New York Liberty, handing them their first defeat of the 2024 season. Reese, 22, contributed 13 points and nine rebounds to the cause.

And in celebrating their victory, LSU alum Reese could not resist a pop at her former college rival Clark, 22, who became the NCAA’s all-time record points scorer with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Reese – a No.7 overall pick in the WNBA Draft – appeared to suggest the Sky’s success helped them attract a huge crowd, rather than relying on Clark’s popularity.

The jab at Clark came as the former Iowa star was searching for her first victory, although the Fever finally ended their four-game losing streak by beating the Los Angeles Sparks 78-73 on Friday.

“And that’s on getting a WIN in a packed area not just cause of one player on our charter flight,” she wrote in a since-deleted post on X.

However, Reese’s mom clarified on X that her daughter was directing her comments at the media and revealed she had received “vile and racist comments”.

“She was not attacking CC [Clark] but bc you & the rest of those ‘children of the corn’ folks thought she was & once again sending her racist & vile comments she did,” Reese’s mother said.

“Her comment was directed towards the media but of course you’re about clicks,” she wrote with a shrugging emoji.

Do Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark like each other?

Unlike some of her WNBA colleagues such as A’ja Wilson, Reese’s apparent dislike for Clark doesn’t stem from her recent rise – it goes way back.

Reese and Clark are both fierce competitors who became standout names in their school’s athletic programs. In the wake of LSU’s 2023 championship run, the rivalry between the two strengthened.

Angel set the record straight in her March/April cover interview with Women’s Health, insisting she did not have a problem with her.

“I love that we’re able to compete and still be cool after, regardless of the outside noise,” Angel told the magazine.

“When we get between the lines and we’re ready to compete, we just want to win. That’s just the group of women-we always want to win, and we’re strong and super powerful in everything that we do.”

However, her latest unprovoked barb aimed towards Clark would suggest there may be a personal feud brewing underneath the surface, at least from Reese’s side.
