Season 7 of Young Sheldon further reveals the underutilization of the character Missy in The Big Bang Theory. Despite efforts to grab her family’s attention with extreme acts like car theft in Season 6, Missy’s near-death experience drives her to change. Resurfacing in the season premiere, she takes over the household management, showcasing her hidden efficiency and potential, demonstrating what could have been if given due importance in The Big Bang Theory. Despite gaining popularity in Young Sheldon, Missy’s potential is underexplored in the prequel series. Contrary to her siblings’ success, Missy’s life spirals into a mundane job and a failed marriage. Even with proven leadership skills and emotional intelligence, she lacks recognition and accomplishment. Eventually, she remarries and has more children, as disclosed in Young Sheldon, leaving viewers curious about her career path. The hope is that future episodes shed light on this neglected aspect. Young Sheldon, airing every Thursday on CBS, offers an in-depth look into Sheldon Cooper’s upbringing and family life alongside his academic pursuit.
Despite Easter Eggs and nods to The Big Bang Theory (TBBT) being popular in spin-off show Young Sheldon, not many fans picked up on Kaley Cuoco’s secret cameo. Cuoco, who played Penny in TBBT, lent her voice to a ‘seductive’ swimming pool in a dream sequence of Young Sheldon. In this feverous nightmare, Sheldon, fearing disease from his school swimming pool, has a surreal interaction triggering his fear of water. Close listeners may have identified Cuoco’s distinctive voice luring anxious Sheldon closer, just before a huge water hand drags him under. Waking in fear, Sheldon screams “pool monster” and ends up faking illness to avoid the swim test. Co-creator Steve Molaro revealed that only Cuoco had the ‘female and kinda sexy’ voice he envisioned for this eerie moment. Both agreed to maintain an air of mystery by keeping Cuoco’s name out of the credits. This clever cameo delves into Sheldon’s fear of water, lending backstory to TBBT’s Sheldon’s unconventional methods of learning to swim on dry land.
