Warner Bros has just shared several details about one of the upcoming projects in the Lord of the Rings franchise. The studio announced The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is set to debut the first look at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which begins on June 9. Aside from the Lord of the Rings project, Warner Bros. Animation will also introduce the first glimpse of DC Studios/ Max Original show Creature Commandos, the first film in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new superhero universe, titled Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, as well as The Amazing World of Gumball, and The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will debut world-premiere footage, but will also be a part of the Filmmaker Conversation and Exclusive Extended Look, with a stellar team of panelists. The standalone animated film has director Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus TV series) at the helm and produced by Joseph Chou (Blade Runner: Black Lotus TV series), both of whom will be on the panel. Andy Serkis, the face behind the “precious” Gollum, will also attend the panel.
The upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will “explore and expand the untold story behind the fortress of Helm’s Deep, delving into the life and blood-soaked times of one of Middle-earth’s most legendary figures; the mighty King of Rohan – Helm Hammerhand.”
The new animated feature will also have Succession‘s Brian Cox in the leading role. The ensemble cast will also feature Gaia Wise (A Walk in The Woods) as Helm’s daughter, Hera, while Luke Pasqualino (Skins) will portray the prequel’s antagonist, the Dunlending lord Wulf. Miranda Otto, who played Helm’s distant descendant Eowyn in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, will return to narrate the animated film. In a press release, Warner Bros. also revealed the first look at the upcoming animated film, which can be seen below.
