Fans of the 2011 sci-fi movie Real Steel will be happy to learn that a possible sequel to the film is constantly a topic of discussion for its director and leading star. Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Shawn Levy recently disclosed that he and Hugh Jackman still talk about Real Steel 2.

Levy was in attendance at Las Vegas’ Cinemacon, where he presented a new Deadpool & Wolverine footage. The filmmaker told Screen Rant at the film industry event about his Real Steel 2 musings with Jackman, “We always talk about Real Steel 2Because the world won’t let us forget, and I’m glad for that,” he said. The comment keeps hopes alive for a sequel to the original, which was a modest box-office success, grossing almost $300 million worldwide against its $110 million production budget. The movie garnered mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and scored a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 84th Academy Awards.

Margot Robbie is teaming up with Olivia Wilde to bring the avenging angel to the screen.

2011’s Real Steel, based on the short story “Steel” written by Richard Matheson, starred Jackman and Dakota Goyo, with Levy co-producing and directing the film for DreamWorks Pictures. The science fiction sports film features a former boxer whose sport is now performed by robot competitors, leading him to build and train his own robot with his son. The film also starred the MCU’s Anthony Mackie and Evangeline Lilly. Olga Fonda, Kari Yune, Kevin Durand, Hope Davis, James Rebhorn, and Gregory Sims also had roles in Real Steel.

Frequent Ryan Reynolds collaborator Levy intimated in 2021 that he would love to make a sequel to Real Steel, which would feature the Deadpool and Free Guy actor in some capacity. Disney also revealed in January 2022 that it was developing a Real Steel TV series, with details still sparse regarding the project.

Taylor Swift is rumored to have a cameo in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, and director Shawn Levy addresses the situation.

Concerning his next film, in another recent interview at CinemaCon, Levy addressed the rumors about Taylor Swift’s possible cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. “I can’t even believe that you would dare ask me a question that you know I can’t answer. You know I can’t answer. All of America knows I can’t answer that, he responded coyly. Pressed about Swift’s involvement, he added, “That is hardly confirmed nor denied in this interview. I’m going to literally walk about of the frame and save myself, otherwise, Ryan’s taking a hit [out] on me.”
