Will he be proven wrong by February?
Winning a Super Bowl is already tough. Two in a row is a near impossibility. But, three? Even Tom Brady and the New England Patriots dynasty under Bill Belichick could not pull it off. However, this does not mean that no other squad in the NFL’s history will try to do so. The Kansas City Chiefs are on the verge of a three-peat come next season. All while they had big NFL Free Agency departures and some issues with the roster in the past two years, the core is still there. Andy Reid is still leading a prime squad that features Chris Jones, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce.

“To win one Super Bowl is extremely difficult. To win two back-to-back, what the Chiefs have done, as we know in the history of the sport, is nearly impossible. Win three in a row. There’s a reason why no one’s done it. To put three of those together, in back-to-back-to-back seasons, with drafting last, a very hard schedule, and all of the turnover in free agency. Guys continuing to be motivated, it’s a big challenge,” the Patriots legend turned analyst said.
While Andy Reid has retained Patrick Mahomes alongside Travis Kelce on offense with Chris Jones and Dre Tranquill to lead the defense, they had some big losses. Notably, Willie Gay Jr. signed with the New Orleans Saints. L’Jarius Sneed also found a new home in the Tennessee Titans. Another key departure in NFL Free Agency was Mike Edwards who joined the Chiefs’ rival team, the Buffalo Bills.
Some trust in the Chiefs
Tom Brady still has some semblance of trust that the Chiefs could beat out his historic Patriots dynasty and actually finish the job.
“That’s not to say the Chiefs couldn’t accomplish that. Believe me, everybody would probably put them as one of the odds-on favorites to do it. Even then, there’s not a 50 percent chance of that happening. They’re way less than that. Those players are going to show up every day, they’re going to have to put in the work like they have,” he declared.
The former signal caller then broke down why this squad, despite the huge odds stacked against them, could do it. This all boiled down to their key components.
“They have a tremendous coach in Andy Reid, who doesn’t ever look backward… They’ve got a great quarterback in Patrick, who, as we know, when he’s on the field, he’s as great a football player as there is in the NFL. Travis Kelce, what he can do at the tight end position, is really a great safety blanket. Rashee Rice came on as a rookie. [They’ve got] Chris Jones [back]. They’ve got [Steve] Spagnuolo back there as a defensive coordinator,” he added.
The same sentiments have been said about the Chiefs every year before going on another Super Bowl run. Hopefully, they follow the same path and lash back the vitriol with yet another Lombardi trophy by February 2025.
