Cardinals are concerned Harrison Jr. is working too much

Known for his rigorous work ethic, Harrison Jr. has already made a strong impression on his coaches and teammates.

However, this impressive dedication has led to some concerns from the coaching staff about potential burnout.

Drafted fourth overall from Ohio State, Harrison Jr. comes with a significant pedigree, being the son of former NFL receiver Marvin Harrison.

His relentless work ethic, a trait inherited from his father, has been evident from the start of his time with the Cardinals.

Yet, head coach Jonathan Gannon has voiced concerns over the young star’s intense training regimen.

“He’s extremely detailed. He does a lot extra, probably too much, I’m going to be fighting him about that,”Gannon remarked, as reported by Pro Football Talk.

While the coach appreciates Harrison Jr.’s commitment, he is wary of the risk of overworking before the season even begins.

Coach Gannon is urging the rookie to be smart

Gannon elaborated on Harrison Jr.’s training habits, noting that the rookie not only participates in regular team workouts but also arrives early, stays late, and continues to train on his own.

“If we’re spaced out how many reps and the amount of workload he gets, and then he goes and runs 100 routes on the weekend, he might be dragging today. Now, he doesn’t drag, but I’m just talking about, I love extra work, but you’ve got to be smart about it. You’ve got to have a routine about what you’re doing,”Gannon explained.

The 21-year-old receiver, who was a Heisman Trophy finalist in his last season at Ohio State, seems eager to make a significant impact in his rookie season.

His selection was influenced not only by his talent but also by his professionalism and work ethic, which NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport highlighted as key reasons why Harrison was Arizona’s first-round pick.

Despite Gannon’s concerns, the Cardinals are pleased with their new receiver’s early performance.

Harrison Jr. has shown ultimate effort in all activities, making it clear why expectations are high for him.

He and quarterback Kyler Murray are anticipated to form a formidable duo on the field, potentially transforming Arizona’s offensive capabilities.

Harrison Jr. signed his rookie contract last month, securing $35.3 million fully guaranteed, including a $22.5 million signing bonus.

If he continues to live up to his high expectations, he could be looking at significant financial rewards in the coming years.
