This past weekend, the renowned swimmer Michael Phelps visited NBC’s Meet the Press program. As usual, he spoke up about his struggles with mental health and his depressive episodes.

He mentioned that FOX Sports football insider Jay Glazer is his “mental health buddy” in a conversation with Kristen Welker. Ryan Leaf, a former quarterback for the Chargers and Cowboys and current football analyst, did not respond to this rather well.

“Jay Glazer and I, we’re both mental health buddies,” Phelps said. “We both struggle, and when we’re both having our bad days, we go through similar ups and downs. And we do similar things when we’re down if that makes sense. We both had this

conversation the other day because when it happens to me, I reach out to him. When it happens to him, he reaches out to me. I have a couple of friendships like that where we’ve kind of been really able to form a bond.”

After hearing those comments, Ryan Leaf did not hold back, so he took to social media and shared his thoughts about Jay Glazer.

“Glazer is a fraud when it comes to anything mental health or wellness-related,” Leaf wrote. He uses it for his benefit and really isn’t invested in any of it unless it benefits him and his brand. Phelps is an inspiration, but it gives me pause that he muddies his mind with that con man.”

Apart from revealing shocking NFL knowledge, Jay Glazer has been transparent about his ongoing struggles with anxiety and depression, producing content related to mental health via his podcast and book.

Ryan Leaf, who was viewed as Peyton Manning’s equal when he entered the league but turned out to be a bust, battled addiction, and served time in jail, has also been transparent about his own journey to improved health.

The quarterback, who spent four years in the NFL, including a spell with Dallas in 2021, where he finished 0-3 as a starter, has made accusations against Glazer, who we believe was formerly close to Leaf. Glazer has not yet responded to these claims.

FOX Reporter Jay Glazer Reveals Crazy Story About The Time He & Chuck Liddell Almost Fought Peyton Manning During Drinking Contest At Pro Bowl (VIDEO)

Peyton Manning with AFC gear on. Jay Glazer with suit on.

Given the MMA-style training and background FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer has, you would think some people would know better than to mess with him.

Glazer once almost had to use his training on a quarterback once upon a time. There was an incident at the 2007 Pro Bowl in which he nearly came to blows with Peyton Manning.

It started with a bunch of players and Glazer trying to break former safety John Lynch’s record of drinking 34 Mai Tais. That is the first indication that things would be bad at some point.

For those unaware, Lynch was one of the greatest NFL safeties and biggest hitters. The former Stanford star played 15 pro seasons and was selected to the Pro Bowl nine times, including after his final season in 2007.

When Manning arrived at the bar where the group was hanging out, he was “throwing barbs” at Glazer. The reporter then started messing with him by trying to replace his Bud Light order.

Manning said, “I said I’ll have a Bud Light, am I stuttering? Get me a Bud Light!” That infuriated Glazer who had to be pulled away, but it wasn’t the end of the verbal altercation.

“Out of nowhere, Peyton goes, ‘Hey, Jay. Did [Michael] Strahan come crying to you like every day to do a story ?’ …

“I’m like, ‘Hey man, why don’t you leave Michael Strahan out of this?’ He says something else. I said, ‘How about you never repeat Michael Strahan’s name out of your mouth again?’ I thought he was talking about his divorce.”

“I just kind of snapped on him. and I won’t tell you what we said, but a couple of them pulled me away from him. It was Eddie George, Lorenzo Neal, Sean Payton pulled me away from him, and his buddy jumped in for him.

“Well, my buddy jumped in for me, and my buddy was Chuck Liddell. So, all of a sudden, his friend was like, ‘Whoop’ and walked over here. And then Peyton’s like, ‘Oh my God.’

“I’m just kind of a pit bull.”

Manning claimed Liddell threw a kick at his head, although Glazer denies that was actually the case. Verbal barbs would be thrown back and forth before the two of them got separated.

“Peyton’s version is funny now, too,” Glazer said, “because Peyton’s version is like, Chuck threw a kick at his head! And I’m like, ‘Chuck did not throw a kick at your head.’”

Glazer said he and Manning would eventually hash things out later on and no hard feelings would be left between them.
