Talks about a contract extension have reached an impasse, leading Justin Jefferson to show his displeasure by not showing up for the start of practices. This does no mean he will not get an eventual deal that he desires, however it does set a precedent into the way he will act if things do not go his way.

Jefferson has been a key player on the team since his arrival but all this talk about a contract extension has taken a toll on the organization and has generated concern among fans and the coaching staff, as negotiations have stalled in Minnesota.

With just one year left on his rookie contract and a fifth-year option worth $19.7 million, the three-time Pro Bowler’s future with the Vikings hangs in the balance. While it is true that a possible trade has been talked about among league general managers, it is highly unlikely the team will actually part ways with their best player and face of the franchise.

Justin Jefferson has played 4 seasons for the Vikings, and he has 392 receptions for 5,899 yards and has scored 31 touchdowns. He is the most important player on the team and with a new quarterback after Kirk Cousins left for Atlanta, they need the wide receiver soon at their facility.

Key dates for him to return to practice

After being a no-show at OTAs, Justin Jefferson technically has to show up for mandatory minicamp, as it opens on Tuesday. If, for some reason he is not there, he will be fined and/or suspended and everyone should see him in late June at Training Camp.

If decides to see out should a deal not be reached, things will get ugly for the start of the season, something that the Minnesota Vikings do not want to provoke as they need him, however extension talks are not close for both sides to reach an agreement and it sounds like the front office should turn on the panic button they can get something done soon or at least promise something that would get Jefferson back on the practice field this week.
