Chicago obtained that selection as part of the package for the first overall pick of 2023, which the Panthers used on quarterback Bryce Young.Fields will back up Russell Wilson (signed to a one-year contract following his release from the Denver Broncos) in Pittsburgh. The Steelers parted ways with Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, and Mitch Trubisky, the three quarterbacks they used last season.Speaking to Tyler Dunne of GoLongTD.com, a former Bears coach offered a rasher harsh assessment of Fields:

Watch his eyes. He tries to see the whole thing and doesn’t see anything. His eyes are all over the place and it’s just really hard to watch. It’s just bad football.

Chicago traded up via the New York Giants in 2021 so they could select Justin Fields with the No. 11 pick. Though Fields’ tenure in Windy City was marred by inconsistent play, the Bears also didn’t give him much of a supporting cast until superstar wideout DJ Moore arrived as part of the Bryce Young trade.

Sure enough, Fields put together the best passing numbers of his career (61.4 completion percentage, 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns and a career-low nine interceptions) last season.

Justin Fields Needed A Fresh Start

Fields may not get much playing time in Steel City this season, but the Ohio State product needed a fresh start one way or another. The Bears never seemed fully committed to Fields in the first place, after all.

Even if Russell Wilson locks down the starting job, Fields will only benefit from learning behind a perennial Pro Bowler and Hall of Fame head coach in Mike Tomlin. And if Fields hits the free agent market in 2025, there will not be a shortage of teams interested in his services.

The Entire Internet Is Laughing At The New York Giants After Someone Revealed Their Lame Reason For Not Acquiring Justin Fields

The Steelers only needed to agree to part with a sixth-round pick to land the quarterback.

According to a claim from the MLFootball Twitter/X account, the Giants never considered acquiring Justin Fields because they figured he was just another version of Daniel Jones.

“REPORT: The New York #Giants never called the #Bears about Justin Fields, because they view him as a similar player to Daniel Jones,” the tweet reads, citing ESPN as a source.

imagine thinking daniel jones and justin fields are the same,” one user wrote.

the disrespect to Justin Fields is insane,” wrote another.

Some fans pointed out that Jones has won a playoff game, something Fields has yet to do.

Justin Fields Has A Much Better Ground Game

Justin Fields and Daniel Jones are both great with their feet, but Fields is a much better runner with the football. Jones had his best rushing season in 2022, registering 708 yards; Fields rushed for 1,143 yards that season.

The sentiments are understandable. Fields and Jones are both mobile; perhaps the Giants want to move away from that. Still, stating that the players are similar is pushing it.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see who the Giants choose to go with as their starting quarterback, as Jones appears to be out.

The team is expected to select a QB in the first round this year. They currently hold the No. 6 overall pick and could see some top names fall to them after Caleb Williams goes off the board at No. 1.

Fields will start next season as the backup in Pittsburgh but will likely have a shot at the starting position if Russell Wilson doesn’t set the world alight under center.
