The Roast of Tom Brady was filled with jokes constantly pushing the limit but Rob Gronkowski may have gone a little too far off script, Drew Bledsoe has admitted.

Former Patriots quarterback Bledsoe joined Gronkowski, Bill Belichick, Julian Edelman and even Kim Kardashian in roasting Brady during the hit Netflix special last week.

The seven-time Super Bowl winner endured brutal jokes about the end of his marriage his ex-wife Gisele Bundchen and the deflategate scandal.

Gronkwoski, who played with Brady for both the Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was also in the spotlight, spiking shot glasses and finding himself the butt of the joke on several occasions.

However, when it was the retired tight end’s turn to take the mic’, he apparently got a bit carried away.

Former Patriots quarterback Dew Bledsoe said he wasn’t sure if Gronk ‘was coming back’

‘We all appreciate Gronk because he just gets to be Gronk,’ Bledsoe told The Dan Patrick Show.

‘But the funny thing is we were all sitting up there on the stage and we can see the teleprompter.

‘Gronk was so far off script that we did not know if he was coming back.’

‘Always make it back!!’ responded Gronkowski with a host of laughing emojis on X.

Gronkowski caught a lot of heat Sunday night as he suffered several taunts about his intelligence – or according to the quips, lack of.

Nikki Glaser took aim at Gronkowski during the roast, mocking the former tight end over his intelligence as part of a joke about Brady’s rumored $30million cryptocurrency loss.

But Bledsoe suggested that’s not really his true nature.

‘He’s dumb like a fox,’ Bledsoe said when asked about the perception of Gronkowski. ‘I mean you can all see that. The dude’s really smart, he works his a** off. But he also understands that’s kind of his schtick.’

At one stage of the evening, Gronkowski knocked back a shot with ex-coach Bill Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft – before Gronk performed one of his signature spikes.

The 34-year-old – who famously used to do the same with a football in his NFL career – slammed the shot glass down on the floor and sent pieces of it flying in all directions.

Yet while it initially seemed like one of many hilarious moments on the night, Schulz says a member of the crowd was left with ‘a piece of shot glass hanging out of her cheek’ as a result of the stunt.

The American comic, who was one of several roasters at the event, said on the latest episode of his Flagrant podcast: ‘[Gronkowski] took the shot. He wasn’t even included in it. The shot was about Tom Brady, Belichick, Bob Kraft.

‘He takes it and he has so much energy he doesn’t know what to do. He slams it. All of us are like, “What the f**k just happened?”

‘A girl in the front row has like a piece of shot glass like hanging out of her cheek. And I’m not talking about a little thing, her whole cheek is red. She looks like a mime.’
