Butker is under fire for the speech he gave during a recent commencement ceremony at Benedictine College. In it, he referred to Pride Month as sinful while stressing the importance of men and women sticking to their roles in the family.

The kicker used his wife as an example, noting that she has found the most fulfillment from her “homemaker” title, which has allowed him to thrive as a breadwinner, husband, and father.

“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,” he said.

“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”

The speech has attracted rife pushback, with a petition to get the Chiefs to cut Butker now nearing 200,000 signatures.

Still, he has found support in one of KC’s biggest stars, with Jones speaking out in his defense.

“I love you, @buttkicker7! My brotha,” Jones tweeted, reposting a tweet slamming the petition.

Chiefs Heiress Gracie Hunt Has Also Sided With Harrison Butker

Harrison Butker has also received support from Gracie Hunt of the Chiefs ownership family. She drew on her own experience growing up with a full-time mother and spoke of her respect for Butker in an interview with FOX News.

The 28-year-old has been integral to the team’s success and has already helped them win three Super Bowls.

While the NFL has distanced itself from Buter’s statements, the Chiefs have yet to address them.

It reads as follows:

“In a statement obtained by TODAY.com, the NFL’s senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer, Jonathan Beane, said the kicker ‘gave a speech in his personal capacity.’”

“His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”

People Want The Kansas City Chiefs To Cut Harrison Butker

Harrison Butker hasn’t faced any discipline for his speech, and he probably won’t. But a Change.org petition to get him released by his team had reached over 178,000 signatures at the time of writing.

“We demand accountability from our sports figures who should be role models promoting respect for all people regardless of their race, gender identity or sexual orientation,” the petition reads. “We call upon the Kansas City Chiefs management to dismiss Harrison Butker immediately for his inappropriate conduct.

“Please sign this petition if you stand with us against discrimination and believe in fostering an inclusive society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.”

The Chiefs have not addressed Butker’s viral speech.

Meanwhile, a petition rivaling the one to get him cut has also gone up online. At the time of writing, it had just over 10,000 signatures.
