Bill Belichick left the New England Patriots in December 2023

Former New England Patriots quarterbacks Cam Newton and Mac Jones recently found themselves chuckling over their former coach Bill Belichick’s new relationship.

The topic came up during an interview at the ESPY Awards, where Newton was speaking to various athletes on the red carpet.

Newton takes jab at Belichick’s love life

Belichick’s romance with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson has been a hot topic in the sports world, and Newton didn’t shy away from addressing it with Jones.

Newton, who played briefly under Belichick, asked Jones, “I have to ask this, former coach, his dating choice right now. What are we doing? Do we approve?”

Jones, now with the Jacksonville Jaguars, responded by deflecting the question back to Newton.

“I’m like… No, I don’t approve. I’m not even gonna lie, but just to see him doing what he’s doing is like,”Newton said, expressing his disbelief and amusement.

Jones, choosing a more diplomatic approach, replied, “Hey bro, good for him, right?” and added, “It is what it is,” downplaying the situation.

Jones’ measured response might be due to his ongoing career in the NFL and the possibility of Belichick returning to coaching in the future.

Newton, on the other hand, was more candid, having less at stake.

Belichick and Hudson have been dating for about a year, with the couple recently spotted celebrating the Fourth of July in the New England area.

The relationship has sparked much curiosity, especially given Belichick’s legendary status and age difference with Hudson.

Mac Jones is embracing new life in Jacksonville

During their brief overlap on the Patriots, Jones won the starting quarterback job over Newton, who was subsequently released and returned to the Carolina Panthers.

Last season, Jones played 11 games for the Patriots, recording 2,120 passing yards, 10 touchdown passes, and 12 interceptions.

He now serves as the backup quarterback for Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville.

Jones expressed his contentment with his current situation, telling Newton“I’m great. What I learned from you, have fun with this s-t, bro. Have fun with it. I’m in Jacksonville, back home having fun.”

Belichick, who coached the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles, has recently added a second media job to his busy schedule.

He will be an analyst on “Inside the NFL” on The CW Network and will also appear on the “ManningCast” during ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”

Additionally, Belichick will be a regular on “The Pat McAfee Show” during the NFL season.

“I’m thrilled to join my new team at NFL Films and to work on such a historic television franchise,”Belichick said in a statement.

“I’ve always appreciated ‘Inside the NFL’s’ depth of analysis, and I hope to bring the same detailed insight to The CW by talking real football with real pros — Ryan, Chris, and Chad — this coming season.”

Belichick’s foray into media marks an interesting shift for the famously reticent coach, who has often preferred to keep a low profile in interviews and public appearances.

Now, he seems ready to engage more openly with the football community, both on and off the field.
