Wow! This is probably the last thing that anyone expected to wake up to this morning. World no. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has been arrested outside Valhalla Golf Club prior to the start of round two of the PGA Championship.

According to reports, the reigning Masters champion was entering the Valhalla Golf Club this morning ahead of his second round when he attempted to drive around a bunch of police cruisers who he thought were merely security officers.

When Scheffler failed to stop for the officers, one of them “attached himself” to Scheffler’s car, which continued driving for 10 yards before eventually stopping. Once Scheffler stopped his vehicle, the police officer grabbed him by the arm, pulled him out and placed him in handcuffs. He was detained in a police car while the officers attempted to figure things out.

Jeff Darlington of ESPN stated that the officers were initially unaware that the man they had arrested was Scottie Scheffler. No word yet on whether Scheffler will be charged with anything or whether he’ll be able to play in today’s second round of the PGA Championship.

 

Footage has since been released showing police officers taking Scheffler away in handcuffs.

 

A Wild Few Months For Scottie Scheffler

It’s been a wild few months for Scheffler, who had won four of his last five tournaments entering this weekend’s second major of the year. Among those four tournament wins was his second victory at The Masters in April.

Scheffler had taken a few weeks off leading up to this weekend’s tournament as his wife just gave birth to their first child — a boy named Bennett.

Despite the long layoff, Scheffler still appeared to be in peak form, as he began his first round of the PGA Championship by draining a 167-yard shot for eagle on hole one.

He finished the first round at four-under-par, leaving him in a tie for 12th place, five shots back of current leader Xander Schauffele.
