Magic Johnson was trending for all the wrong reasons recently, having mentioned Steph Curry’s mom in a tweet.

The Professional Basketball Writers Association named the Golden State Warriors star the Magic Johnson Award winner on Wednesday, and the former Los Angeles Lakers point guard inadvertently caused a stir while congratulating him.

“Congratulations to Stephen Curry on winning his second PBWA Magic Johnson Award honoring a player who displays ‘cooperation and grace in dealing with the media and fans’ both on and off the court!” he shared.

“By the way @StephenCurry30, I had fun hanging out with your mom last night at the Sparks home opener!”

Not sure we need to tell you why that reads a little strangely.

Of course, social media had a field day with the last sentence. You can see some of the best reactions below:

Magic Johnson Tells It Like It Is

If you’ve seen any of Magic Johnson’s tweets, you’d know he wasn’t messing with Curry or being disrespectful in any way.

The five-time NBA champion is known for his plain social media posts that tell it like it is. He was really just telling Steph that he met his mother, Sonya Curry, at a WNBA game.

They were both at Walter Pyramid on Wednesday night to watch the Los Angeles Sparks play the Atlanta Dream. Johnson is part of an ownership group buying the Sparks, which recently drafted Cameron Bink as the No. 2 overall pick. Bink happens to be Sonya’s goddaughter.

John W. Davis of the Long Beach Press-Telegram also posted a video of the pair greeting each other at the game.

Meanwhile, Curry is now a two-time winner of the Magic Johnson Award, having won it back in 2016. He joins Damian Lillard and Shane Battier as the only athletes who have won it twice.

NBA Fans Were Shocked Over Team USA’s Decision to Bench Jayson Tatum and Kevin Durant in the 1st Match

The USA Team selected all the star players for the Paris Olympics, which ultimately made it difficult for them to prepare the roster. As there are only five spots for the starting lineup, upsetting the basketball community by not including the ones they were expecting is quite natural. When the roster for the pre-Olympics exhibition game was disclosed, the fans were stunned to not find Kevin Durant and Jayson Tatum’s names on it.

The head coach Steve Kerr selected Steph Curry, Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday, LeBron James and Joel Embiid as the starters for the game against Canada at the T-Mobile Arena. While Durant and an excited Tatum remained on the bench on Wednesday night.

By leaving the two outstanding scorers out for the game, the USAB Team’s organization amazed the basketball lovers. The fans gathered on social media X (FKA Twitter) to express their disappointment about not seeing Durant and Tatum in the first game.

An astonished fan wrote, “Holiday over Tatum” with an emoji to show his emotion.

While another mockingly added, “Tatum getting his chain snatched by another teammate”.
