Saturday was an eventful day for the James household. LeBron James joined the star-studded USAB team ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics and his son marked his first-ever outing for the Lakers. Be it in the Summer League, but the first ever bucket on a professional level is always special and Bronny got the first taste of it.

In the first quarter of the game vs the Kings, Bronny James recorded his first-ever points for the gold and purple. The 55th draft pick drove through the Kings‘ defense and evaded at least 3 players. LeBron, who was in Vegas with the USAB, kept tabs on the proceedings in San Francisco. He watched his son score his first points on the phone and said, “C’mon man that’s tough…That’s tough. Get loose!”

Despite that bright start, Bronny’s night did not go as per the script the Lakers fans hoped for. His lackluster performance will surely raise further scrutiny over his worth in the Lakers system and LeBron James and Co. will have a lot to think about.

Bronny’s Performance Raises Concern for LeBron James and Co.

After months of speculation, when Bronny ultimately joined the Lakers, immediate questions were raised about his merits. Even LeBron’s winning mentality was called into question because of his supposed involvement in recruiting his son. To shut down those talks, Bronny needed a strong performance, but it was far from that.

In the 22 minutes he played, Bronny only managed to get 4 points. With a shooting of 2/9 from the field and 0 from beyond the 3-point arc, it’s far from ideal from what JJ Redick would look for in his guard.

Sure, he bagged 2 assists and 2 rebounds, but the Lakers were -13 in point difference when he was on the court. Compared to him, the other draft signing, Dalton Knecht, had a better game with a 12-2-4 statline. But he, too, struggled to knock down his shots.

With JJ Redick looking for an efficient shooting side, the two rookies’ performance left much for desire as LeBron James and Co. will have a lot of grooming jobs at their hands.
