Dak Prescott had to eat his words rather quickly after making a claim that could have probably prompted raised eyebrows from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback is facing a crucial period in his career as the team will have to make a decision on his contract at the end of next season. But he’s betting on himself to come out of the situation in better shape.

Dak Prescott spoke to the media this Monday and was asked how he is coping with the pressure of an incoming season in which anything less than a Super Bowl will likely impact his future.

“It’s just the urgency you should have, to be honest,” he said. “So maybe guys who normally wouldn’t feel it, feel it. So I don’t mind it, been in this position before. I’m a gambling man, will gamble on myself and my guys.”

The QB immediately realized his choice of words was probably not the best and made a quick, humorous clarification, making sure everyone knew he was being figurative.

“Not actually guys. I understand there’s been a lot of (issues with gambling), so, not that way,” he added.

Dak Prescott Wasn’t Taking Any Chances

Had Dak Prescott left his statement as is, no one would have assumed he was betting on his team’s games. Still, he felt it needed to be cleared up.

The NFL has had to hand out stiff punishments over gambling offenses over the last few years, and while he’s in no danger of facing any (unless he really is gambling on Cowboys games), the quarterback didn’t want to risk his words being taken out of context.

It’s great that he went that route too. It made for a good laugh.

NFL Fans Are Calling Out Cowboys QB Dak Prescott On Social Media Over His Boldfaced Lie

NFL fans are calling Dak Prescott out over what they believe to be a blatant lie.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback is entering the final year of his contract and will likely secure a hefty sum after the 2024 season while also resetting the QB market.

The former Mississippi State star insists he isn’t worried about his contract negotiations with the team and doesn’t even care about the money he’s paid to play football.

“I don’t play for money,” he said, per Patrik Walker of the Cowboys’ official website. “I have never cared for it, to be honest with you. Yeah, I would give it up just to play this game.”

Obviously, fans don’t believe a word of this and have hit out at Prescott online over what they’ve labeled as “cap.”

“Then take the vet league minimum. I’ll wait,” a user said in the comments.

“He plays for first round playoff exits, obviously,” another joked.

Dak Prescott Has Little Reason To Be Worried

Dak Prescott isn’t worried about his contract negotiations, but it’s probably not because he doesn’t care about money.

He is fully aware that, given the no-tag and no-trade clauses in his current deal, he has all the leverage.

The QB is responsible for $55.4 million against the salary cap but would still count for $40.14 million against the cap, even if he doesn’t re-sign with the team.

“Business is business,” he added. “I’ll leave it where it gets handled. Right now, it’s about being my best for this team right now, in this moment, in OTAs and helping these guys out. I’m just focused on that and I know my business will take care of itself. I’ve been in [this situation] before, so I’m experienced and just controlling what I can right now.”
