Novak Djokovic completed tennis on Sunday as the Serbian won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, defeating Carlos Alcaraz.

“I don’t want to…” Novak Djokovic echoes Simone Biles’ comment on ‘what’s next’ after Olympic triumph

Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic does not want to be bothered as he celebrates his gold medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 24-time Grand Slam champion who completed tennis on Sunday as he beat Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s singles final to clinch his first-ever gold medal at the Summer Games, says he wants to live in the present and not be thinking about the future.

When Djokovic was asked about his future plans, the Serbian ace said that he wanted to say the same thing as Simone Biles about what next after the Olympics triumph. As Biles asked the media not to bother with her question about what lies next after winning the Olympics, Djokovic wants the same.

He said he has waited so long for this moment and won’t let questions about his future overshadow it. Djokovic emphasized that he doesn’t want to rush into the future and is focused on enjoying this “sweeter” moment.

I don’t want to rush into the future and talk about my plans. For the first time in my life, I don’t want to answer those questions but to be in this present moment and enjoy this success. I saw a quote from Simone Biles, the legendary athlete from the USA, who told the media and asked them not to ask her what’s next after winning the Olympics.

Djokovic wants to stay in the present rather than talk about his future plans. The 24-time Grand Slam champion says that he had to suffer quite a few failures before he achieved this feat.

Novak Djokovic also reiterated that he wants to relax now that he has achieved the “biggest sporting success”. Addressing questions about his future plans, Djokovic sent a clear message: despite numerous failed attempts to win Olympic gold, he has finally achieved it and now wants to celebrate.

That’s my message; I’ve waited for this all my life. Twenty years of career, I won bronze in Beijing, played in the semifinals in the following ones, and could never get past that hurdle and fight for gold. I succeeded at the age of 37, and now everything is sweeter and makes more sense. Now I want to rest, enjoy, and celebrate.

Now, it is to be seen if he stays around and goes for the 25th Grand Slam title or if Djokovic will call it quits and sign off on a high
