Charles Barley has delivered a strong message following the assassination attempt on former United States President Donald Trump this weekend.
Trump sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound as he was clipped in the ear by a shooter while speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. While he was able to walk away relatively unharmed, a spectator was not so lucky as he lost his life.
Barkley, a known Trump detractor who threatened to punch any black person he saw wearing a mugshot T-shirt featuring the former POTUS, condemned the act while at a golf tournament in Lake Tahoe over the weekend.
“I don’t like to be too serious, but I gotta be serious for a second,” Barkley said. “Something really sad happened today. Somebody tried to kill the president of the United States.
He was corrected, with someone pointing out that Trump isn’t President right now.
“Now, that is really [expletive] up. I’m not going to get up here and act like I’m a Trump guy,” he continued. “But I want to say this, I wish President Trump health. Now I want to make it clear because I know by the time Fox News chops my [expletive] up tonight they’re gonna say I voted for him, but I want to wish him the best. We should not be trying to kill the president of the United States.”
Charles Barkley Won’t Be Voting For Donald Trump
Even so, he made it clear that he wouldn’t be voting for Trump.
Barkley now identifies as an independent, having supported both political sides over the years
