The storyline for this season for the 2x reigning champions was “Aces vs Everybody.” The entire WNBA is seeing a surging growth in numbers, thanks to rookies like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. But Las Vegas has successfully set itself apart proving that they are much better than the 2024 batch. Now, they have picked up another huge jackpot for themselves, verifying how their value is increasing with every game.
A’ja Wilson happily announced the big news with her 1 million Instagram fans. Las Vegas has now become the first team in the WNBA’s 28 years to sell out all of their home games for a season. This fact becomes even larger from the fact that the 2024 season is just 5 weeks old. We have yet to come to the middle point of the season while women’s basketball is already seeing such a huge leap in interest.
The Aces, on their official Instagram account, also posted the same. They captioned the post, “🎰 𝐉𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐏𝐎𝐓 🎰 The Las Vegas Aces have made WNBA history as the first team to sell out all of its regular season home games.”
The season for the Aces has not been disappointing. While they have had some ups and downs with injuries and defensive issues, it is only appropriate to see that the back-to-back champions with some heavy star power have slithered their way through. Currently, they are standing at the fifth seed in the overall rankings with a 7-6 win-loss record. Nevertheless, nothing is stopping them this season.
A’ja Wilson and Co.’s increasing popularity
This time around, many teams are showing championship-worthy potential. Whether you look at the Connecticut Sun with only one game hanging as a loss to last year’s Finalists New York, or the underdogs in the Minnesota Lynx, this season is filled to the rim with talent. But the Aces have not found their brakes yet and seems like they are only on the rise. In the recent team valuation report, Las Vegas topped the charts with a whopping $140 million value. The franchise has jumped 7000% up since 2021. It was last purchased for just $2 million then.
In March 2024, the Aces became the only team to sell out its season tickets. Now, with the individual tickets of their September 3 game vs the Chicago Sky also exhausted, they stand at the feat mentioned before. Attendance-wise as well, Las Vegas saw 10,424 fans in the Michelob ULTRA Arena when they first locked horns against their reigning finals opponents, the Liberty. This set the team attendance record for the two. The Aces had a franchise record set in the T-Mobile Arena when 17,406 fans saw them beat the Phoenix Mercury this season.
Looking at the fact that they are on their way for a three-peat, even the city itself could not stop themselves. Previously, the LVCVA had announced that they would personally sponsor the Aces players. The amount was a whopping $100,000. While the team could not make itself a Commissioner’s Cup contender second year in a row, this promise from the city seems quite promising. Surely, A’ja Wilson and the team have set themselves apart from the rookies.
