Steve Harvey

In case you haven’t been following, comedy great Katt Williams had a mouthful to share about his fellow comedians during a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast Club Shay Shay. In the episode, the “Friday After Next” star made several claims against other comics, accusing some of stealing content and expressing his opinion that overall, they don’t have high skill levels in the art of comedy. While going on a tirade about Cedric The Entertainer allegedly stealing one of his own jokes, Williams also accused Cedric’s good friend Steve Harvey of idea theft.

According to Williams, the “Family Feud” host jacked the idea for his popular 1996 TV series, “The Steve Harvey Show,” from comedian Mark Curry’s 1992 sitcom “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper.” In the series, Harvey portrayed a professional musician turned high school musical teacher/vice principal. While Curry similarly played on his show a successful NBA player turned high school substitute gym teacher/coach. Speaking on Harvey allegedly replicating Curry’s idea, Williams stated:

“The same Steve that went to go watch Mark Curry do his whole sitcom and then stole everything Mark Curry had…Now Steve got a sitcom where he’s the principal and he wears a suit.”

Going on to insult Harvey’s skills as an actor, he added:

“You couldn’t be a movie star…There are 30,000 new scripts in Hollywood every year. Not one of them asked for a country bumpkin Black dude that can’t talk good … and look like Mr. Potato Head. There ain’t none. You have to have range.”

He also went on to allege that Harvey thought he was funnier than late comic star Bernie Mac, which essentially was the reason Mac ultimately opted to leave the “Kings of Comedy” tours. Williams claimed though offered, he declined to fill the space out of respect for his friend whom he deems the greatest of all time. He also showed respect and love for D.L. Hughley.
