Kevin Costner’s divorce from Christine Baumgartner was influenced by more than just Yellowstone conflicts involving his deep commitments
SUMMARY
Costner’s staggering net worth and success came at a personal cost.
Disagreements over filming schedules for Yellowstone led to a fallout with director Taylor Sheridan.
Famed for his roles in iconic movies like The Untouchables and Bull Durham, Kevin Costner stands tall as one of the most acclaimed and versatile legends in Hollywood. However, shockwaves went through the news when his wife of eighteen years, Christine Baumgartner, filed for divorce about a year ago. Furthermore, early rumors that started swirling about the reasons behind the move blamed his Yellowstone project for causing conflicts in the actor’s work-life balance.

It turns out, that those talks may have only been partially true. The Man of Steel star recently spoke out on the actual issues that took a toll on his marriage as well as him being as surprised as any other on knowing the news. Additionally, he also opened up on his commitments to upcoming projects like Horizon and also on why he stays so focused on his work.
The actual reason why Christine Baumgartner separated from Kevin Costner

Boasting a staggering net worth somewhere north of $250 million, Kevin Costner has undertaken grueling hardships to attain the same. Rather, it not only involved risking his personal life but also ultimately ended up consuming his second marriage. Soon after, Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce last year, many speculated his intense work schedule and commitment to the Netflix drama, Yellowstone as the prime reason. Yet, the actual cause is slightly more lengthier and complicated and involves his near obsession with Horizon.
So much. Very serious stuff. And those things are very important. I have to deal with them. And I have to deal with them on a daily basis, emotionally, historically almost. And then there’s the immediate needs of children. I’m not going to list the things—I’m going to stop right there with them. That is my job, looking at that, and dealing with that.
The actor’s words highlighted his current situation of giving his all to the upcoming two-part Civil War project, which also changed his working relationship with the executives of the series that caused the ruckus in the first place.
Horizon led to Costner’s disagreements with Yellowstone director

Kevin Costner played the role of John Dutton in the first season of Yellowstone in 2018 and has since stayed in place for five seasons so far. However, he may not return for the second part of the fifth iteration after locking heads with director Taylor Sheridan. The actor’s near-obsessed commitment to Horizon had him demand a fifty-day filming period instead of sixty-five for the first half of the season. The disagreements entered hard negotiations but ultimately ended in a fallout.
Costner’s exit from the show meant his appearance in the second half lies up to fate. Moreover, it also marked the end of the show, which initially had plans to run for as many as seven seasons. Meanwhile, Horizon stands out as the pet project that he first thought of way back in 1988 and will now roll out as a two-part saga, the first of which just received a seven-minute standing ovation during its premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
