The rift between the Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson is no new story. The rumors of the shooting guard entering free agency have been going on throughout the season. The franchise did try to lure him with a new contract extension, but the veteran did not seem interested. Some allegedly felt that moving on without him was no big deal, as he wasn’t among the most important players whose exit would greatly impact the team. This naturally upset Klay, as per an NBA Insider.

According to Brett Siegel’s report, “The Warriors still value Thompson’s contributions to their historic success, sources said, yet some in the organization do not view him as an essential part of their core group moving forward with the emergence of Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski.”

The franchise certainly rode on the shoulders of Stephen Curry during their four championship victories. However, Klay Thompson had a big role to play with his shooting from the deep. Even though some in the organization beg to disagree, this doesn’t change the facts.

Klay felt disrespected as the franchise did not offer an extension for 3 years as he wanted. Instead, they wanted to resign him for 2 years with a $48 million contract. Since the 34-year-old didn’t seem interested in the deal, the franchise took back the offer. At this point, the suitable option for Klay appears to be moving on to another organization.

Probable Destinations for Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson might not be getting the offer and value he wants from the Warriors, but there are teams that would want to provide him with what he needs.

As per the reports of Sporting News’ Stephen Noh, Klay could potentially land with the Orlando Magic or OKC Thunder. The latter is searching for sharp shooters who would help them in the offence. He might have been past his prime, but he still showed a glimpse of his potential this season.

The Magic also seems like a possible destination for Klay, as The Athletic’ Shams Charania reported. His future will soon be revealed as the free agency market opens.
