A player is reported to have threatened to kill Deion Sanders’ son while with the Colorado Buffaloes last season.
Athlon Sports published the findings of some investigative journalism this week, detailing the “chaotic culture” in the CU locker room that resulted from the pressure Coach Prime’s arrival put on the roster to win and win immediately.
One player in particular had a horrendous time in Boulder.
Cormani McClain has moved on to perceptibly greener pastures and will be playing his football at Florida after a nightmare campaign with the Buffs.
The former five-star recruit struggled under Primetime and hardly got a look in last season. Sanders repeatedly told reporters that the player’s attitude and relaxed approach to practice was the reason for pushing him to the periphery.
However, it appears there was much more to McClain’s experience at Colorado.
Cormani McClain Reportedly Threatened To Kill Deion Sanders Son After Getting Slapped
The aforementioned outlet cited a quote from another former player who claimed McClain was being bullied by Shilo Sanders, who repeatedly slapped him after a loss last season.
The player also implied that McClain was being abused by coaches during games.
“Cormani was taking a lot of heat from everyone,” he said. “At the same time Coach Prime was saying he was in the doghouse and needed to improve, Cormani was getting bullied by Shilo (Sanders).
“After the Oregon State game, Shilo slapped him several times, which left Cormani screaming ‘I’m going to kill you’ repeatedly. After that, you could tell he wasn’t mentally there. It’s hard when the coaches you trust are calling you derogatory names on the practice field.”
Of course, locker rooms can get extra tense after a loss, but this doesn’t seem typical and is still a bad look for Deion Sanders and Colorado.
The former NFL superstar will hope for a better second season in Boulder following last season’s 4-8 finish.
